Our Mission

The mission of the Maryland Tourism Coalition (MTC) is to elevate and improve the tourism industry statewide through advocacy, education, and connection.

Serving as a member of the MTC Board of Directors is both an honor and a privilege. It is an honor because your peers have recognized your achievements and leadership. It is a privilege because you will help shape the future of MTC and the tourism industry in Maryland.

Call for Nominations: 2026–2028 At-Large Board of Directors

MTC is currently accepting nominations for the 2026–2028 At-Large Board of Directors. Board members are industry-minded leaders who are passionate about supporting MTC’s mission and advancing the Coalition to the next level, while championing member success and statewide collaboration across Maryland.

Please use the nomination form to put forward a current MTC member in good standing for consideration. Self-nominations are welcome. All nominations will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee in accordance with MTC’s bylaws and governance procedures. Candidates recommended by the Committee will be presented to the Board for approval, and then to the membership for election.

Prospective board members are strongly encouraged to thoughtfully consider the time commitment associated with board service, including attendance at meetings and events held across the state, committee participation, strategic planning discussions, advocacy efforts in Annapolis, and ambassadorial responsibilities.

Term of Office

• Two (2) years per term, following election at the MTTS Annual Meeting held in November.
• A Director may serve up to three (3) consecutive terms.
• The first meeting of a new term is the December Board meeting, scheduled for December 2 at 10:00 a.m., held virtually.

Election Requirements

• Nominated by the Nominating Committee.
• Elected by the membership.
• Must be a member in good standing, and with the member organization, for at least one year.
• Sign the Board of Directors — Standards of Performance that include the Duties & Responsibilities as found below.

Duties & Responsibilities

Board members are expected to:

• Contribute to defining MTC’s mission, goals, and vision, and support the fulfillment of both short- and long-range organizational objectives.
• Provide guidance for the overall good of the organization and the industry, without regard for personal gain or personal opinion.
• Approve the annual budget, financial reports, meeting minutes, dues structure, bylaw amendments, and policy recommendations from committees or task forces.
• Serve actively on at least one committee or task force, attending its meetings and participating in the accomplishment of its objectives.
• Understand, support, and promote MTC’s mission and strategic goals.
• Act as a positive ambassador for MTC, representing the organization with integrity, loyalty, and diligence, and helping enhance the Coalition’s public image.
• Assist with membership growth, retention, sponsorship development, and member and exhibitor engagement.
• Contribute expertise, leadership, and strategic insight to support the organization’s growth and impact.
• Work with, and respect the opinions of, fellow board members, and maintain confidentiality on all MTC-related matters.

Meeting Attendance Requirements & Expectations

• The Board meets quarterly, typically on the 4th Thursday of the month. Two meetings are held in person from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., and two are held virtually from 1:00–3:00 p.m.
• Board members are expected to come prepared to discuss the issues and business addressed at each meeting, having read the agenda and all relevant background materials, and having an understanding of MTC’s bylaws.
• Attendance via an AI tool or virtual assistant does not count as attendance, as such tools cannot cast a vote on the member’s behalf.
• Board members are expected to lead by example by keeping their dues fully paid and attending as many MTC-sponsored events as possible, including Tourism Day (February), the Spring Seminar, the Summer Soirée (August), and the Maryland Tourism & Travel Summit (November).
• Directors with two (2) or more unexcused absences from board meetings in a calendar year will be deemed to have resigned from the Board, and their resignation will be accepted. An absence is considered unexcused if the Executive Director is not notified in advance.

The deadline for nominations and self-nominations is Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The slate of candidates will be announced to the membership by October 19, 2026. The membership will vote on the final slate during the MTC Annual Meeting in November.
